These women who have been working for free since 2 weeks
Wage inequalities in France make people roar, and this has even increased during the pandemic...how is it going for Luxembourg?
It was in one of its famous newsletters that "les Glorieuses" published a shocking piece of information! "We are on November 4th. From 4:16 p.m. today, women in France start to work as volunteers until the end of the year, due to wage inequalities" (according to Eurostat 2020 data) 😫
Their goal? To denounce a situation that has been stagnating for 4 years: a wage gap of 15.5% in 2020 (compared to 15.4% in 2019).
What was particularly appreciated in their approach was the fact that they conducted a survey among women but also men! ♀️♂️ Indeed, regarding this alarming news, 88% of the men interviewed think that "it's a shame", so this proves that mentalities are changing but not salaries. (Want to know more? Over here)
But what you probably didn't know is that this inequality has increased during the pandemic because domestic chores have increased. 🦠 In France, during the lockdown, 1 woman out of 3 would have stopped working to become a housewife VS 1 man out of 4 (source: INED study June 2020). (for more details we recommend you this news).
And for Luxembourg? 🇱🇺 The gap is much smaller compared to France. In 2018, Luxembourg was second on the podium for the smallest gap in Europe (4.6%) behind Romania (3%). Companies are also given the choice to join the 'actions positives' program of the Ministry of Equality, which helps them on various points: equal recruitment, promotion, training, decision-making, parental leave, etc. We agree with them that a good balance in a company helps to be more efficient in the long term, that's like a marathon!
And, by the way, they have their own advent calendar full of testimonials, let's open a box? 😏
‘Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong. It is time that we all perceive gender on a spectrum, instead of two sets of opposing ideals.’ _ Emma Watson
It couldn't be more clear, Emma Watson put the words to what we think TRUE gender equality is.
